01
Getting started
How do I start therapy with Miriam?
Schedule a complimentary consultation through the secure SimplePractice scheduler or call 347-926-3659. The consultation is a conversation about what brings you here and whether working together feels right. No referral is needed, and you do not have to share your full history to explore fit.
What happens in the first real session?
The first session focuses on what is happening now, what you hope will change, and what helps you feel steadier. You set the pace. Miriam may ask about your history, but you decide what to share and when. Nothing painful is approached before trust and grounding are in place.
Who does Miriam work with?
Adult women who want to understand how childhood experiences shape their adult lives, including childhood trauma, the mother wound, self-worth, people pleasing, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, attachment patterns, and chronic pain. She also offers couples therapy and a small therapy group.
Do I need a diagnosis to begin?
No. Many women come because something feels off, not because of a label. The work is organized around your experience and goals, not a diagnosis. If a diagnosis becomes relevant for insurance or coordination of care, Miriam will discuss it with you directly.
02
Format and location
Where is the office?
The office is at 2875 NE 191 St, Aventura, FL 33180. Office hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Friday, 9:45 AM to 1:30 PM, Eastern Time. The office is closed Saturday through Monday.
Can I do therapy by video?
Yes. Secure video sessions are available for clients physically located in Florida or New York during the session, because Miriam is licensed in both states (Florida SW19366, New York 089811). There is no physical office in New York; New York care is by video only.
What if I travel between Florida and New York?
Because Miriam holds licenses in both states, you can continue sessions from either one. Let her know where you will be for each appointment. If you will be in a third state, sessions may need to pause until you return, because licensure follows the client’s location.
Is virtual therapy as effective as in person?
For many people, yes. The relationship, pacing, and approach are the same. What helps most is a private space, a stable connection, and a few minutes before and after the session to settle in and transition. You can also mix formats over time.
03
The approach
What is inner-child work?
Inner-child work is a way of making room for the feelings, needs, and beliefs connected to your younger self. In sessions, you explore how early experiences taught you to seek safety or approval and practice responding to those younger parts with care rather than criticism. There is no requirement to blame, confront, or forgive anyone.
What is the mother wound?
The mother wound describes pain connected to a relationship with a mother or mother figure, such as conditional approval, criticism, emotional distance, or being needed more than nurtured. It is descriptive language, not a diagnosis, and it does not tell the whole story of a family. Therapy focuses on your experience and what you need now.
What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a psychotherapy approach that views the mind as made up of parts, each with a protective role, and a calm center the model calls Self. In practice it means getting curious about the part of you that criticizes, pleases, or shuts down, and understanding what it is protecting. Miriam is trained in IFS.
What is EMDR and will we use it?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a structured psychotherapy in which you briefly focus on a distressing memory while following bilateral stimulation so it can be processed with less intensity. Miriam is trained in EMDR and may offer it for childhood memories, but only after preparation and only if you want it. It is never done in a first session.
Does therapy mean I have to confront or cut off my parents?
No. There is no requirement to blame, confront, forgive, reconnect with, or distance yourself from anyone. Those are your decisions, and therapy does not presume the answer. The work is about understanding your experience and caring for your needs in the present.
04
Privacy, cost, and safety
Is what I share confidential?
Yes, within the limits required by law. Miriam will review confidentiality and its exceptions with you at the start of care, and the practice’s Notice of Privacy Practices is available on this site. Video sessions use a secure telehealth platform. Email and this website are not for sharing detailed clinical information.
How much does therapy cost?
The consultation is complimentary. Couples therapy is $250 per session and the therapy group is $950 paid in full or $160 per session. Individual session fees are shared at consultation. You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate under the No Surprises Act. See the fees page for details.
What if I am in crisis?
This website, email, and the client portal are not emergency services. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. In the United States you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at any hour.
